Our league began in 2015 with six managers, and while we have expanded on multiple occasions, there is no proof we have or have ever had more than six somewhat qualified general managers at any given time. Below is an abridged version of our league's esteemed history.
We are entering our 9th season, and have had various amounts of service time by all our members – Brad, Brett, Cameron, Frank, and Joe were all charter members, along with part-manager, part-myth (and therefore, a mythager) Greg, who sadly left our league after the 2016 season, but not before becoming a verb/folk hero for his consistency in roster management – the guy made exactly zero post-draft moves in his two seasons with the league.
After Brad won the inaugural championship over Frank, we expanded in 2016 to include Ryan B., Ryan P., Kevin, and Jeff (who sadly left our league after the 2016 season). After Cameron beat Kevin in a tight championship match in 2016, we added Chase and Andy (who sadly left our league after a disappointing 2017 season in which he relied heavily on Giants – a fact he should have known would lead to danger due to 2017 being noted, in mathematical terms, as an odd year).
Chase stormed his way to the top during his inaugural season, defeating Kevin in the most exciting championship match to date, claiming the title of 2017 champion. In Andy’s absence, we added another team helmed by Giants fans, this time with co-managers Larry and Luke. 2018 brought more parity to the league than ever before, and Cameron won the championship over Ryan B. in another tight match.
In 2019, we expanded through the additions of Andrew and Curtis to our league, bringing our league total to twelve teams, and Luke took over sole control of his team while Larry became Manager Emeritus in perpetuity. Cameron managed to defeat Chase in the championship to become the first back-to-back champion in league history.
2020 included a shortened regular season thanks to COVID, and ended with Luke edging out Cameron in the championship match. Luke immediately dedicated the victory to Larry. 2021 featured the same championship matchup as the year before, with Cameron getting the win over Luke.
In 2023, Ryan B. was dominant in the championship matchup against Cameron, marking his first claim to the league trophy. 2023 marks the fifth consecutive year in which the managers have stayed the same, marking a period of stability unmatched in the annals of league history.
Additionally, 2023 marks the beginning of this website as a vessel for The Weekly Update, the only publication known to cover the happenings of the Six Somewhat Qualified GMs fantasy baseball league. See the links below for some of our league information and archived updates.
